Kat and Alex had an overbearing end leggy hedge that let little light into the front of the house. The side gate was broken and the boundary fence was in need of replacement.
Prestigious Trees took the hedge down. A new boundary was erected with side and front gates in a country style with simple winter planting of Cornus Kesselringii and Cornus alba Sibirica, Galanthus nivalis accompanied by evergreen ferns and Betula utilis jacqumontii under a bed of organic compost mulch. The clay is very heavy and the site very sloped, so to improve the structure and water holding of the soil by sensitive slow mulching over a period of years is more appropriate rather than excavating and directly replacing and thereby causing a small landslide. Small landslides are best avoided. The overall look aimed for is northern European and modern English country. Watering of the planting has been advised and followed as once a week directly to the roots to encourage them downwards and help them get established before the summer arrives.
Further planting will be minimal; a few more ferns have been added and meadow plants and some wildflower seed are to come. Back garden next; but not before some veggies on the patio experimenting by K n A!
